Bellows couplings

What are bellow couplings?

A bellow coupling is a flexible shaft connection that transmits the torque of an input shaft to an output shaft. It consists of a flexible bellows made of a thin metal sheet or rubber, which is firmly connected to two hubs.

How does a bellows coupling work?

A bellows coupling works by connecting two shafts using a flexible bellow. The bellows at Miki Pulley consists of a thin, wave-shaped rubber made of polyester resin, which is placed between the two hubs. When one of the shafts moves, the bellows is stretched or compressed to transmit the motion to the other shaft.

The bellow coupling can compensate for axial, radial and angular movement between the shafts by allowing the bellows to be flexible and move in all directions. This reduces the transmission of vibration and noise as well extends the life of the machine or equipment.

There are different types of bellow couplings, such as the metal bellows coupling, the rubber bellows joint coupling or the diaphragm coupling. Each type has its own specific features and applications, but they all work in a similar way by connecting two shafts with a flexible bellow.

What are the advantages of bellows couplings?

Bellow couplings are very compact and can be used in tight spaces. The low friction results in long life and high efficiency. They also support speeds of up to 9000 rpm.
They reduce vibration and noise, resulting in quieter operation. Furthermore, they are environmentally friendly as they do not require lubricants or other chemicals.

What makes Miki Pulley bellows couplings stand out?

Miki Pulley bellows couplings can compensate for up to 10° of angular misalignment with their flexibility. The coupling is backlash-free and supports torques from 0.4 to 3.0 Nm.

Where are Miki Pulley bellows couplings used?

Our bellows couplings are often used in machines and systems that require high flexibility and reliability, such as in automation or medical technology.

How do you select a suitable bellows coupling?

In addition to torque and misalignment possibilities, speed and bore diameter are the most important characteristics to consider when selecting a bellow coupling.
